IDC STAFF INSTRUCTOR COURSE

SCHEDULE AND OVERVIEW
The purpose of the PADI IDC Staff Instructor is to train current Master Scuba Diver Trainers to the level of Staff Instructor. Using your existing diving experience and knowledge, you will learn and use a variety of classroom, open- and confined water and evaluation techniques. This will enable you to teach the PADI Assistant Instructor course and assist with Znstructor Development programs. The training oflDC StaffInstructors involves five modules:
  1. Overview and Standards
  2. Pre-assessment ofknowledge, skills and presentations
  3. AcademicTraining sessions
  4. Evaluation andtraining
  5. Auditing an IDC
    This module provides you with a perspective ofhow an IDC is conducted. You will observe all IDC curriculum presentation sections. Upon successful completion, you are certified as an IDC Staff Instructor. The Staff Instructor Course program is as follows:

    DAY l

    • Course Orientation
    • Standards Pre-assessment Exam
    • Dive Theory Pre-assessment Exam
    • IDC/IOC Standards, Procedures and Curriculum
    • Skill evaluation pre-assessment (confined water)
    • Pre-assessment confined water teaching presentation
    DAY 2
    • Academic Microteaching Presentation
    • Evaluating Academic teaching presentations
    • Psychology of Evaluation and Counselling
    • Evaluation Confined Water teaching presentations
    • Evaluation Open Water teaching presentations
    CANDIDATE PRE-REQUISITES
    To enrol on a staff IDC you must:
    • Be renewed and in teaching status as a PADI Instructor for the current year.
    • Hold a PADI Master SCUBA Diver Training rating.
    • Agree to conduct all levels of diver training consistent with the standards and philosophy outlined in the PADI Instructor Manual.
    • Agree to use the PADI system and components in its entirety.
    DUTIES OF A PADI IDC STAFF INSTRUCTOR A renewed IDS Staff Instructor is authorised to:
    • Independently teach and certify PADI Assistant Instructors
    • Conduct specific IDC/IOC training segments under the direct supervision of a PADI Course Director.
    • Evaluate and critique IDC/IOC candidate academic, confined water and open water teaching presentations.
    • Provide counselling and remedial teaching for IDC/IOC and IDC staff Instructor candidates.
    • Assist with training during instructor level continuing education programs such as PADI Speciality Instructor training courses.
    • Observe the orientation and closing sessions of a PADI Instructor Examination.
